Chinese Drama
Introduction
CHIJ Katong Convent is one of the few privileged schools in Singapore with a Chinese Drama CCA, led by our experienced instructor cum drama practitioner who is very active in the drama scene. Under her tutelage, our CCA has grown from strength to strength even during the pandemic. Our students are a close-knit team who has built rapport and fostered great friendship while learning a myriad of drama techniques. At the same time, they are also exposed to backstage technicalities like making of props, designing sound and lighting effects.
Our students may not have the best spoken and written Mandarin, but they definitely have wonderful opportunities afforded to them through SYF presentations, school performances and appreciation of professional plays.
Objectives
- To promote the love of the arts and Chinese drama performance.
- To expose students to acting roles on stage, duties backstage and to learn teamwork and nurture leadership skills.
- 30-week plan on SYF preparation in the year of SYF. To also plan for main events of the year such as CCA Fair showcase, Chinese New Year celebration performance at school and other school or external performances.
Programme (Lower Sec)
Students are exposed to internal (school events) and external performance (Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation, Glowers Drama Group) platforms.
They are also trained in basic skills in acting, voice projection and body language.
Programme (Upper Sec)
Students are exposed to internal (school events) and external performance (Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation, Glowers Drama Group) platforms.
They are also given opportunities to take on acting roles on stage and backstage positions (lighting, music, props, and setting), and are trained in skills in directing, script-writing and crafting of surtitles.
